Continue to contact all members of the Legislature and urge them to support true property tax reform: statewide funding for schools, the elimination of property taxes, strict voter controls on district-specific tax increases for special projects.
Both Senator Rafferty and Representative Schroder are in frequent communication with CTA, and they are working very hard to enact legislation that benefits taxpayers. One such law already enacted is the line-item budget law (Act 46), as a result of what CASD residents suffered. They also have introduced legislation to committee requiring a supermajority vote of approval by a School Board before a school tax increase can be passed onto the people and a law to classify superintendents and business managers as "at-will" employees(HB 1914).
